BIO
Jeffries Moore (b. 1981, Los Angeles) is a contemporary artist residing and working in Anaheim, California. After receiving his AS in Architecture from El Camino College he began working as a draftsman for the City of Los Angeles’s Public School System. He later served as a Production Designer, Research Captain, and Storyboard Artist at the Patterson Educational Center in New York for the production of contemporary and historical films. As a result, his artistic practice and cinematic methodology are strongly intertwined, examining contemporary art encompassing media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, augmented reality, video, installation, and writing.
Jeffries oeuvre is marked by representational visual language and a strong conceptual foundation. He is best known for his anamorphic black paintings and his sensory focused augmented realties. Through his art, Jeffries seeks to challenge conventional perceptions and ignite conversations about the complexities of the experiences of the marginalized. He also seeks to navigate the complex narratives of displacement and connection, using a palette that blends the real with the surreal to question and redefine the boundaries of identity in the contemporary world. His work, characterized by rich textures, optical distortions, and symbolic imagery, invites viewers into a dreamlike space where the metaphysical meets the tangible, and where collective memories and future aspirations are vividly imagined and critically examined.
Jeffries is inspired by artists such as Walton Ford, Keke Smith, and Louise Nevelson. Like Ford, he weaves intricate narratives that challenge perceptions of history and modern society, using distortion-both visual and conceptual-to reshape meaning. Like Smith, he explores layered textures and anamorphic perspectives to create disorienting yet immersive experiences. Like Nevelson, he uses deep textures to render his paintings in a sculptural way. These inspirations in tandem with his own artistic vision informs the evolution of his work as a a commentary on issues of the marginalized in the urban landscape.
